Principal's Welcome

Welcome from Ms. Chavez-Fritz, Roosevelt Principal

Welcome to Roosevelt STEAM Academy Magnet Middle School banner

Welcome to Roosevelt STEAM Academy!

At Roosevelt, we have a strong emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). This emphasis began in 2007 when our school first started the NASA Explorer program.  Educators worked with NASA scientists at JPL and throughout the country to learn more about the skills that students would need to thrive in a STEM environment.

With the designation of Roosevelt as a magnet school, we have further refined this program to provide engaging STEAM opportunities for all students integrated into the core curriculum (English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Physical Education) and strengthened our elective opportunities.  Every student at Roosevelt is given a STEAM education, as we serve to bridge elementary school and high school.  Regardless of if children have had a robust Elementary School STEAM education or if this is their first experience, the Roosevelt faculty and staff provide incredible opportunities for our students.

Roosevelt is incredibly proud to be a part of the Verizon Innovative Schools Program’s seventh cohort!  Students received a Chromebook complete with a Verizon data plan at no charge.  Also, teachers and students access cutting-edge programming to learn more about technology through direct experience.  Teachers are coached on how to utilize technology to maximize student achievement in the classroom.  Through a supplemental package with Arizona State University, we have also increased our elective opportunities to provide new and exciting technologies.

Roosevelt is also proud to host two languages of the Glendale Unified School District’s FLAG (Foreign Language Academies of Glendale) Program at our school.  Specifically, we host students continuing their dual-language immersion studies in Spanish and German.  Our Spanish program consists of students enrolling in Spanish language arts and having their history class presented in Spanish.  Students in the German program are enrolled in the German language arts class.

At Roosevelt, we also realize that students are more than academics. As a school community, we focus on the whole child with a comprehensive counseling program, student mentorship through programs like WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) and ASB (Student Council), and build community through Restorative Practices and PBIS.  Students make connections through AthleticsClubs, our VAPA program, and more.

Our ultimate goal at Roosevelt is to ensure that we are laying the groundwork for our students' success in college, career, and life.  I hope that you will take the time to check out our website and follow us on our social media: @RsvltMS on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.

Believe! Achieve! Succeed!
