Promotion Requirements
A student must earn at least 100 credits in order to qualify for promotion from middle school in Glendale Unified School District.
For 7th and 8th Grade
- There is a potential of earning 140 credits in middle school.
A student earns 5 credits for each class they pass (Grade D or better) each semester. - Students must be enrolled in a minimum of seven periods each semester, which will include Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, Physical Education, and an elective or reading course. Seven classes at 5 credits per semester equals 35 credits.
- 35 credits for the 4 semesters of middle school equals 140 credits.
Promotion Requirements
To participate in the school’s eighth-grade promotion ceremony and eighth-grade activities, which include awards ceremonies, theme park trips, and other activities, a student must:
1. Earn a minimum of 100 credits in grades 7 and 8 combined.
2. Receive NO more than two (2) Fs in the second semester of the eighth grade year on the semester report card.
3. Receive NO more than four (4) unsatisfactory (U) citizenship grades during the eighth grade year on the semester report cards. NO more than two (2) unsatisfactory (U) citizenship grades can be received in the second semester of the eighth grade year.
4. Receive NO more than two (2) suspensions in eighth grade and no more than one (1) suspension during second semester of eighth grade.
A student must meet appropriate curriculum content standards to be recommended for promotion to the 9th grade at the completion of 8th grade. Students not promoting may be required to attend summer school at the high school.
Silver Award
- You will need 120 credits and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 - 3.99 in all 3 Semesters
- No N’s, and No U’s in all 3 Semesters
- No Suspensions in 8th grade
Gold Award
- You will need 120 credits and a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in all 3 Semesters
- No N’s, and No U’s in all 3 Semesters
- No Suspensions in 8th grade
Summer School
Students can earn up to 20 credits (10 credits in 7th and 10 in 8th) in summer school.
